Women are independent and liberated in many Muslim countries. It’s a reality that is slowly replacing the widespread myth in the Western society that the fairer sex in the community is ignored.
Similarly, the perception of the West in the minds of many young people in the Muslim world is confined to media-created images, and Dr Monica Gallant, Chair of Business Department at Dubai Women’s College (DWC) says this needs to be addressed.
Dr Gallant said this during an interview with Khaleej Times in the context of the annual ‘Insight Dubai’, a leadership conference at DWC. The sixth chapter of the conference begins tomorrow.
Students from 35 countries including Afghanistan, Palestine, Nepal, India, Australia, US and the UK will participate in the event. DWC has also sponsored student visits from Kenya and Haiti.
It will bring together more than 150 Emirati and international students for a week of interactive activities inclined towards global awareness and empowerment of women.
A Shariah Court scenario explaining the Inheritance Law for Women, a trip to the Federal National Council and Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and a talk on autism are on the agenda for the conference.
Emirati high school students are being invited to participate in a poster design competition themed ‘Autism in the UAE’.
Ten winners will receive a prize and an opportunity to attend the final day of the conference. [Read More]
